The Prime Minister has appointed Alex as HM Solicitor General for England and Wales.
As HM Solicitor General, Alex will support the Attorney General across the range of her responsibilities. This includes:
- Deputising for the Attorney General and responsible for such matters as the Attorney General delegates to him
- Providing support to the Attorney General in her superintendence of the Government Legal Department, the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate and the Serious Fraud Office
- Providing support to the Attorney General on civil litigation and advice on civil law matters and on the public interest function
Following his appointment, Alex said: "I am delighted to be appointed as Solicitor General for England and Wales.
"I am looking forward to working with the Attorney General, to help build back better and safer from the pandemic and to continue the Government’s work in rebuilding confidence and trust in our criminal justice system.
