Alex was invited to introduce Rishi Sunak at the leadership hustings in Cheltenham.
During his speech, Alex highlighted what had been delivered for Cheltenham with Rishi as Chancellor.
Alex said:
"As Cheltenham’s MP I’ve seen in Rishi someone who wants to deliver that financial stability not for the sake of it – but for what it can do for our country, for the British people.
It is stability that will catalyse our economy and deliver the jobs, prosperity and excellent public services that flow from it. It was on the back of a stable economy that this government, with Rishi as Chancellor, delivered in Cheltenham alone:
- A £30m new school
- £39.6m for a brand-new new hospital wing, going up as we speak
- £23m investment for the Cyber Park
- £3m Advanced Digital Academy in Hesters Way, to galvanise opportunities for youngsters from all walks of life
- £6m for the latest state-of-the-art diagnostic scanners in CGH’s radiology department
- Kickstart scheme
This has changed lives and will do in the future. Because if we secure our economy, all this we can do and more. We can deliver opportunities for our young people. We can deliver the strong public services which keep us all safe. We can resource GCHQ, Gloucestershire Police, the NHS."
