Alex laid a wreath at the National Memorial Arboretum on behalf of the British Government to honour the memory of the 179 British personnel who lost their lives in Iraq.
The Last Post sounded at the Basra Memorial Wall to mark 20 years since the start of Operation Telic.
Writing on Facebook, Alex said:
"Today I laid a wreath at the National Memorial Arboretum in memory of those British service personnel who lost their lives in Iraq.
"They answered the call when it came, and served with exceptional courage and professionalism.
"Let us remember too the families, who live with grief every day. We cannot bear as they do the pain of their loss; but I hope they can draw some comfort in knowing that they were the best of us, our nation treasures their memory and salutes their service. We will never forget them."
