Alex was pleased that Cheltenham has been included in the West-of-England Skills Accelerator Trailblazer and Pilot.
The new employer-led plans will help to ensure that technical education and training is better aligned to the skills needs of local labour markets.
This will enable learners to develop the skills that enable them to get a well-paid and secure job, no matter where they live, and in the sectors that are critical to our future economic success.
Alex said: “When I met with the Prime Minister recently, I made clear that when it comes to “levelling up”, Cheltenham must not miss out.
“I was therefore very pleased that Cheltenham has been included in the West-of-England Skills Accelerator Trailblazer and Pilot.
“This new system will be driven by employers, colleges and other providers working together to identify the skills needs of the area, and to begin the process of transforming the delivery of technical education so that it both meets and drives demand for skills.
“It is hoped that this will help to transform the way our skills system works and play a key role in building back better."
