Cheltenham's Schools, their Teachers, and Number 10

Last week, I was delighted to arrange for Belmont special school Head Kevin Day to visit 10 Downing Street. As I wrote in last week’s Echo, Kevin was representing all of Cheltenham’s special schools – Belmont, Bettridge, the Ridge Academy and Battledown Centre.

I have always believed in using my time in Parliament to campaign energetically for change on behalf of my constituents. This week has featured three causes close to my heart.

Chemical Weapons in Syria

After seven years of almost unimaginable suffering in Syria, last week witnessed another dreadful low. Chemical weapons are alleged to have been dropped in two strikes in Dhouma, the last rebel-held town in Eastern Ghouta – one targeting a bakery. Dozens were killed.

Homes for Cheltenham's Young People

Earlier this week, the Government launched a major shake-up of planning rules in England designed to increase the supply of homes for young people. Some may ask why. After all, last year saw the biggest increase in housing supply in England for almost a decade – over 217,000 new homes.

Progress on the A417

In the 1980s Guinness ad execs told us that “good things come to those who wait”. They were talking about beer of course, but they might just as well have been referring to the proposals to fix the notorious A417 bottleneck at the Air Balloon.
