Cheltenham's MP, Alex Chalk, has today welcomed the latest ONS jobs figures, showing that unemployment in the town is continuing to fall. There were 105 fewer people without work in the town in November 2015 when compared to a year ago, leaving the total unemployment rate at just 1.3%.
This overall trend has also been reflected in youth unemployment, with the number of 18-24 year olds in Cheltenham looking for work down 8% over the last year.
Commenting on these figures, Mr Chalk said ‘’This is excellent news. I'm delighted to see more and more people in Cheltenham finding work, particularly those young people entering the workplace for the first time. But we must not take our foot off the gas. It is vital that we build a vision for our long-term prosperity, so that opportunities exist in Cheltenham for years to come.''
