Cheltenham businesses encouraged to sign up for a free digital masterclass with Google

On 6th November the Google Digital Garage on tour will arrive in Cheltenham to give local businesses the chance to attend a free masterclass and learn crucial skills for the digital age. The Digital Garage on tour will be co-hosted by local MP Alex Chalk.

Experts from Google will run a seminar and one-to-one mentoring sessions that offers advice and tips to local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs on making the Internet a growth engine for their business.

The tour is part of Google’s Digital Garage project – a commitment to provide digital skills training to 200,000 small businesses across the UK by the end of 2016. Government research shows that SMEs with a strong web presence grow more than twice as quickly as competitors, create more than twice as many jobs, and are 50% more likely to sell outside of their immediate region.

By encouraging and supporting a variety of businesses to use the Internet effectively, from entrepreneurs and one-man-band start-ups, to larger companies, these workshops aim to prove that, with the right training, any business can become a digital business.

Alex Chalk, MP for Cheltenham said:

"I am determined to support Cheltenham's local small businesses and give them the opportunity to succeed. Research has shown that businesses with a strong online presence grow faster and help to boost the local economy. This is why I'm hosting this event with Google to give Cheltenham entrepreneurs the chance to hear and learn from their experts, and I'm encouraging as many local companies and entrepreneurs as possible to sign up to take advantage of this opportunity."

The Digital Garage on tour has been designed to support and advise businesses regardless of their technical expertise – from complete tech novices creating their first website, through to improving an existing website and online marketing.

Eileen Naughton, Managing Director, Google UK, said:

“The Internet is already playing an important role in helping companies of all sizes across the Cheltenham area reach new customers, manage marketing expenses and use data-driven consumer insights to help their business grow. We want to make sure this opportunity is open to all. Our goal at Google is to show UK businesses how easy it is to get online and turbo-charge their growth. We hope that businesses in and around Cheltenham will take advantage of these free digital training sessions.”

Businesses and entrepreneurs in the area can sign up for the free consultations and workshops at University of Gloucestershire’s Park Campus, Room TC103, Elwes Reception, The Park, Cheltenham, GL50 2RH, on 6th November from 2-4pm.
