When Alex first launched his cyber vision in 2014, he wanted GCHQ to stimulate a wider cyber economy. That vision has now taken a step forward with the opening of the UK's first ever GCHQ/NCSC-accredited cyber skills course at Glos Col's Cheltenham campus.
Glos Col is the first college in England to offer a degree apprenticeship recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) – a part of GCHQ, for delivering quality education and training.
Apprentices will gain a UWE Bristol BSc (Hons) Cyber Security Technical Professional degree and experience in operating autonomously; leading teams to manage cyber security risks and secure solutions end-to-end; and detecting and responding to incidents.
The new Advanced Digital Academy comes after Glos Col were able to secure £3 million of Government funding designed to kick-start the economy and help Gloucestershire recovery from the pandemic.Alex said: "This is one of the most exciting developments to have happened in Cheltenham in the last decade.
"This £3m government investment puts Cheltenham at the front of the pack for cyber skills training and provides opportunities here on our doorstep for people to go as far as their talents will take them."
