As part of the Government’s drive to recruit 20,000 new police officers by 2023, Alex has welcomed news that Gloucestershire recruitment is ahead of schedule.
99 police officers have been recruited in Gloucestershire since September 2019, bringing the total number of officers up to 1260.
Since his election as Police and Crime Commissioner in May 2021, Chris Nelson has recruited an additional 44 police officers, 19 Special Constables and 96 Police Staff.
This has coincided with a 38% reduction in crime comprising house burglaries, street robbery, vehicle crime and criminal damage.
Alex said: "Gloucestershire Constabulary continue to display bravery, commitment and professionalism as they work to keep the public safe.
"I know from conversations with officers just how valuable more police officers will be in helping crack down on crime in Cheltenham so I am delighted that recruitment is ahead of schedule."
