On 23 August I was trackside at Kemble to see for myself how investment is improving our railways. Together with Conservative MPs who have worked tirelessly to seek new funding, I saw first-hand the work that is taking place to double the line between Swindon and Kemble. This project is crucial to expanding capacity on our railway and helps reverse decades of under-investment in our infrastructure.
It is also a step in the right direction in terms of improving train services at Cheltenham Spa. Once the work is done, the journey time between Cheltenham and London should be reduced and more services will be available. Furthermore the investment could eventually lead to the introduction of inter-city express services on the London to Gloucester and Cheltenham route. As I've said before, improved railway services are long overdue in Cheltenham. Projects like this are a step in the right direction.
