The Queen’s speech represents the next step in the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan, backing business and helping hard working families. The continuing legislative programme of the Conservative-led government sets out measures to tackle all the major issues facing the UK today:
· Safeguarding the economic recovery
The Conservative Party wants to make extra funding available to small businesses and drive down on red-tape. Small businesses are vital to creating jobs and securing a prosperous future.
With the biggest investment in roads since the 1970s, and in rail since Victorian times, Conservatives are delivering on the commitment to expand infrastructure. The Infrastructure Bill ensures that long-term funding is available for projects across the South West whilst removing the bureaucracy that has been preventing them in the past.
· Supporting you and giving you control of your money
Conservatives are fulfilling the promise to free up the pensions system to give people control of their money. Conservatives are tackling the challenge of finding affordable childcare by establishing a new, tax-free childcare support scheme. This scheme will provide up to £2,000 worth of childcare support per child to over 3,000 families in Cheltenham.
· Achieving a fairer society
Our pledge to cut crime remains at the forefront of our policies. We continue to update laws to ensure they provide an effective guard against serious crime.
Work must always pay. Measures have been put in place to tackle National Minimum Wage abuses and to restrict the misuse of zero hour contracts. It is important that the rewards for the economic recovery must be available to all.
Legislation outlined in the Queen’s Speech builds on previous Conservative achievements in government and highlights the dedication of the Conservative Party to delivering on promises to secure an economic recovery for all.
