Latest figures reveal that the number of people in work in the UK is at a record high. Wages are growing at their fastest pace in a decade – outstripping inflation and putting more money into people’s pockets.
This week I wanted to celebrate some fantastic news for Cheltenham General Hospital – the award of £10 million to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust for equipment replacement and infrastructure improvements.
On 14 June 2017, shortly after the General Election I wrote this in the Gloucestershire Echo: “The Government no longer has its majority. There is now an imperative to achieve the maximum possible national consensus.
Amidst the latest Brexit wranglings some really vital news affecting Gloucestershire was almost completely lost last week – the announcement by Highways England of a preferred route for the A417 Air Balloon scheme.
This week I called in Parliament for Cheltenham to receive investment from the £1.6bn Stronger Towns Fund. This money has been allocated by the Government to boost less well-off towns in England after Brexit, and is intended to be targeted towards those communities which feel left behind.
Today, Thursday, Laurence Robertson MP and I will meet at our request local health Trust bosses to restate our serious concerns about their plans for general surgery changes at Cheltenham General Hospital.
