For decades, sewage has spilled into the River Chelt at times of heavy rain.
Now thanks to local MP Alex Chalk, Cheltenham’s local water company is being forced to clean up its act.
After months of pressure from Alex, Severn Trent last year caved in and gave Alex a cast-iron commitment to reduce spills by 85% by the end of 2024 – much faster than elsewhere in the country
Already spills are down by a massive 80% compared to 2020 levels [Source: Env Agency 2023]
Now Alex wants to go further.
