Communities blighted by anti-social behaviour are being cleared up by offenders within 48 hours in a pilot Alex first introduced as a junior minister in 2021.
Alex visited Coventry to get stuck in with a project to see how it's forcing offenders to repay their debts directly to neighbourhoods they've harmed.
These clean-up teams not only tackle the corrosive impact of crime but ensure offenders visibly atone for their actions. Criminals handed a community order face a stark choice – work hard to change your ways or face being sent back to court or jail.
Alex said:
"Anti-social behaviour undermines people’s sense of pride in their communities and makes them feel unsafe in the place they call home.
“That’s why we are taking a zero tolerance approach with our plan to stamp it out. Our plan is working, with clean-up teams not only tackling the corrosive effect of such crimes but also forcing offenders to repay their debts to the very neighbourhoods they have harmed, cutting reoffending and making our streets safer.”
