Alex was pleased to welcome the Transport Secretary to Stagecoach HQ in Cheltenham after the Government awarded Gloucestershire County Council £5.9m to help decarbonise its bus fleet.
The money will fund 58 electric buses - including buses used for the 94 and 94x service between Cheltenham and Gloucester and the buses used for the 801 service between Cheltenham and Moreton-in-Marsh.
The new buses will not only be cleaner, helping improve local air quality for bus passengers and local communities, but they will also be more modern, sustainable and efficient meaning that bus passengers in Cheltenham can enjoy more reliable and more comfortable journeys.
Alex also took the opportunity to thank the Transport Secretary for the funding boost announced earlier this year for more bus services in Cheltenham, including the new hourly Service R connecting St Paul’s, Rowanfield and wider west Cheltenham areas with Cheltenham town centre.
Buses carry far more people than trains in Britain in a normal year. It's important that modernisation continues.
