This was the week Labour arrived on Cheltenham’s electoral scene. In a bravura article in the Echo (Feb 23) the Labour candidate conceded he couldn’t win in May, but railed against the Lib Dem mantra of a ‘two-horse race’. He also savaged the Conservative-led coalition.

Cheltenham’s Conservative MP hopeful has set out his stall for the town’s businesses. With less than 70 days until Cheltonians go to the polls, Alex Chalk has chosen to launch his own business manifesto, outlining what he would do differently from the Lib Dems to support local entrepreneurs. 

Transport Supremo comes to town

Transport was pushed to the top of the agenda last week, as the Transport Secretary paid a visit to Cheltenham's Railway Station. The Secretary of State, Patrick McLoughlin MP, was welcomed to town by Conservative MP hopeful, Alex Chalk, to discuss the future of Cheltenham's transport infrastructure.

Chalk launches Fair Votes For All petition

The Fair Votes for All group has welcomed Cheltenham’s Prospective Conservative MP, Alex Chalk, as a patron of their campaign. This group is calling for English votes for English issues to be introduced into the House of Commons as soon as possible. 

Huge win for Cheltenham

The Government has today announced an ambitious £15 billion plan to triple levels of spending by the end of the decade to increase the capacity and condition of England’s roads. Most significantly for us here in Cheltenham, the Government has agreed to fund the £255m ‘Missing Link’ infrastructure project to ease the gridlock at the Air Balloon.

Terrorism

This week is ‘Counter Terrorism Week’. The initiative by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has seen more than 3,000 police officers out and about advising on public safety. There has even been a surge of sniffer dogs at airports hunting money leaving the UK to fund terrorism.
