Alex was delighted to nominate Graham Roberts and Gerry Oldham of Cheltenham Saracens FC for a Community Sports Champions reception at 10 Downing Street to recognise their efforts to create opportunities for youngsters in Cheltenham.
Under Graham and Gerry's leadership, Cheltenham Saracens have raised more than £1m, including a £458,000 Government grant, to upgrade their facilities and to build a new community sports hub at Petersfield Park.
The project, which Alex was delighted to lobby for with ministers behind the scenes, will help deliver a new changing room, toilets, kitchen, community room, bar and skittles alley. Works will also include a new private road access into the ground.
Alex said:
"Cheltenham Saracens are a pillar of our local community and create exciting opportunities for so many youngsters in our town. So I was delighted to nominate them to attend a reception at 10 Downing Street for Community Sports Champions.
"The funding Cheltenham Samaritans have secured - including £458,000 from the Government - will enable them to provide even more sporting and community based activities for years to come."
