Alex called a meeting with the Minister for Social Care, whose portfolio includes cancer care, as part of the ongoing campaign for Gloucestershire Cancer Institute in the heart of Cheltenham.
Alex also met with the Lords Health Minister in January.
The proposed three-storey cancer institute would be based at CGH and would provide cutting-edge Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy and new consulting rooms - as well as a pelvic resection centre and a robotic cancer resection centre.
During his meeting with the Health Minister, Alex stated that the GCI would be a major step forward in the treatment of cancer, supporting earlier screening, faster diagnosis and referral, and improving treatment for people living with and beyond cancer in Cheltenham and Gloucestershire.
Alex also stated that whilst Gloucestershire is already performing better than the national average in cancer care, we need the facilities that will secure that strong performance into the future as well as being important in the recruitment and retention of excellent staff.
