For seven years, Alex has campaigned on behalf of those affected by ME/CFS - a group whose suffering has for many years gathered little attention or support. Alex has convened regular meetings with members of Gloucestershire's ME/CFS Friendship Group, to plan next steps, draft lobbying letters and arrange meetings with scientists.
Alex recently held talks with the Health Secretary to press for more medical research funding for ME/CFS.
The Health Secretary has now confirmed that the Government is developing a radical new approach to the illness including a new plan for patient care and new research into the condition. This will make the UK a world leader in tackling this incredibly disabling condition.
Alex said: "ME is a cause close to my heart, and I am so grateful to the local Cheltenham group who have battled so brilliantly over the last five years to help raise the profile of this disease and make sufferers’ voices heard.
"The meeting with the Health Secretary was excellent and I am so grateful to him for following up on his commitment to making the Government a world leader in tackling ME/CFS."
